Bands
The Praise bands at St. Michael provides the music for the Saturday contemporary services. These bands play predominantly popular Christian music, often heard on the radio. There are 4 bands that rotate each weekend regularly, and each band has a different group of people that play. Anyone who plays piano, guitar, bass, and drums is welcome. Please feel free to reach out to any of our band leaders for more information.
Men’s Choir
This choir is the TTBB (tenor, tenor, baritone, bass) choir here at St. Michael. This choir sings a wide variety of anthems to enhance worship. Rehearsals are every other Wednesday from 6 – 7 PM in the Sanctuary.
Women’s Choir
This choir is the SSA (soprano, soprano, alto) choir here at St. Michael. This choir sings a variety of anthems to enhance worship. Rehearsals are every other Wednesday from 6 – 7 PM in the Sanctuary.
Adult Choir
This choir serves as the primary choral group at St. Michael. The group is a mixed SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) choir. This choir sings a variety of choral anthems to enhance the worship experience. All adults of any skill level are welcome to sing. Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 7 – 8:30 PM in the Sanctuary.
Jubilant Fields
This group is the bluegrass group at St. Michael. This group plays in worship, as well as different events that St. Michael hosts. Anyone who plays guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, or fiddle are welcome. We love having beginners join us!
King’s Strings
Life Song
Youth Band
This band is geared towards youth who want to learn how to play in a praise band setting. This group will teach the fundamentals on how to play together, read chord charts, and learn how to interpret a song. Any youth that plays guitar, bass, piano, or drums are welcome. Rehearsals are announced.
New Song
Handbells
We have 3 handbell choirs and opportunities for small group and solo ringing. All our groups have fun through community as we practice weekly to prepare for playing approximately once a month in worship and joining in the music ensembles for festival days such as Christmas and Easter.
Grace Notes
Open to youth in 3rd – 8th grade. This group teaches the fundamentals of how to play together, how to ring a handbell, and notes and rhythm. Mondays from 3:30 – 4:45 PM in the Sanctuary.
Resound
Playing music that is of a higher level of difficulty, this group is a great place to be challenged and to grow in skill and knowledge of the instrument. Mondays from 7 – 8 PM in the Sanctuary.
Harmony Ringers
Playing music up to moderate difficulty, this group is great for anyone new to music as well as those who would like to participate in a fun and dynamic music group. Mondays from 6 -7 PM in the Sanctuary.
Flute Choir
The Flute Choir is a group that plays a variety of arrangements to enhance worship. Including the C Flutes, they also incorporate the alto flute and the bass flute into their music. Rehearsals are Sundays from 9:30 – 10:15 AM.
Orchestra
The orchestra at St. Michael plays at special services including Easter, Christmas Eve, and Reformation. This group accompanies the choir on different anthems and plays hymns as well. Winds, brass, percussion, and strings are welcome. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 6 – 7 PM.
Academy of the Arts
The SMLC Academy serves St. Michael Lutheran Church as well as the greater Fort Wayne community by inspiring, educating, and empowering students of all ages through comprehensive instruction in the performing and visual arts. We believe that the arts serve as a foundational medium for reaching, engaging, and motivating people towards a deeper relationship with Jesus. The Academy offers both private and group lessons.
Fine Arts Camp
The Fine Arts Camp is a week-long summer day camp at St. Michael Lutheran Church that provides an opportunity for youth to connect faith, creativity and community. The week culminates in a Friday evening program where students will share their talents and art work with family and friends!
