The Fine Arts Camp is a week-long summer day camp at St. Michael Lutheran Church that provides an opportunity for youth to connect faith, creativity and community. The week culminates in a Friday evening program where students will share their talents and art work with family and friends!

how do I enroll my students?

who can attend the fine arts camp (FAC)?
The FAC is open to all youth who have completed Kindergarten through 8th grade. The Fine Arts Camp is divided into three divisions to provide age-appropriate instruction:
intermediate and middle school
Intermediate: For students who have completed Grades 2, 3, or 4
Junior High: For students who have completed Grades 5, 6, 7, or 8
Students creatively explore their faith through 5 classes each day - 2 core classes (theme, music) and 3 electives that are chosen by the student during the registration process. Please note that some electives are open to Junior High students only.

For children who have completed Kindergarten or 1st grade
Enrollment limited to 30 students
Two classes of 15 students, with two teachers in each class
Primary campers do not select electives, but participate in a set program of scheduled activities throughout the day
Campers will creatively explore faith through theme class, music,art, movement, and handchimes
what will campers experience?
Campers will participate in a wide variety of visual and performing arts like dance, drama, cooking, painting, sewing, woodworking, music, and have lots of fun, too!
who are the teachers?
Our faculty are talented, experienced teachers with a passion to praise God with art. Most are actively teaching in private, church, or public schools. They are deeply committed to sharing their talents and faith. A list will be available soon.
who are the teen volunteers!
Our amazing student volunteers are youth who have completed 9th-12th grade and serve as examples of servant leadership before and during the week of FAC. Interested youth should email St. Michael’s Director of Youth, Emma Deines.

March 1 through May 15…please read through the FAC brochure carefully before you register and register early to secure a spot. Email any questions to fineartscamp@stmfw.org.
What is the cost?
Financial assistance is available through partial and full scholarships. Please contact Fine Arts Camp for further information.

Certain art electives for the Intermediate and Junior High campers, by their nature, contain a higher cost for their supplies. If an elective is marked with a (*) a $10 material fee will be charged.
what is the daily schedule?
The Fine Arts Camp is Monday through Friday from 9:00a - 3:30p. All children should bring a sack lunch each day.

Is there childcare available before or after the camp sessions?
Before and After Care is available beginning at 7:30a and ending at 5:00p. Please sign up when you register your child.
Before Care, 7:30a - 9:00a, is $10 per day
After Care, 3:30p - 5:00p, is $10 per day
what are the core classes?
All students who attend Fine Arts Camp attend the following core classes. These classes do NOT count toward your electives. The Core classes of Music and Theme are grouped by age divisions.
THEME CLASS: Using a wide variety of interactive experiences, campers will explore and learn what it means to be created in the image of God.
MUSIC: Fundamental choral and music skills will be explored through singing and playing percussion instruments. All music learned during the week will be shared at the closing program on Friday evening, June 28.
CLOSING CELEBRATION: All families are invited to attend the closing celebration on Friday evening, June 28, at 7:00p. The FAC participants will share what they have learned and created during the week. Come early to stroll through the art gallery and be a part of the celebration.
What electives are available?
Creative writing: Words can be powerful, funny, confusing, mysterious, sad, expressing our deepest feelings. Discover different ways to express your creativity with words, and find joy in the process.
*Culinary: Come prepared to create and try new foods as we learn how to prepare delicious and nutritious food for ourselves and others
Dance - Ballet: Fundamental ballet techniques will be explored as we express our creativity through flowing, graceful movement.
Dance - Jazz: Get your creative juices flowing as you praise God through moving your body. New and experienced dancers are always welcome.
Drama: Learn basic acting techniques while preparing for a short dramatic presentation. Bring your creativity and imagination to the stage while learning basic stage direction, vocal inflection, and audience engagement techniques
Drums: Just imagine - what would a drum look like if you made it yourself? Use your creativity to construct your own drum to be used as a part of a percussion ensemble.
Handbells and Chimes: Handbell music is beautiful to hear and to see! Come learn basic handbell skills, and techniques. A basic knowledge of reading music is helpful for this class.
Fiber arts: Enjoy the art of felting, utilizing wool and natural fibers, to create works of art.
Mixed media: Using a wide variety of media techniques, express yourself in a personal work of art. Drawing, painting, printmaking and experimental collage techniques will be used in your creation. Students are encouraged to bring an art smock to class each day,
Murals: Be creative in a big way! Join your class in constructing murals and express your artistry in exploring grafiti.
Painting and Drawing: So many things to draw! So many things to paint! Where will your creativity lead you as we explore the exciting possibilities of two dimensional art?
Painting Advanced (Junior High only): Take your skills to the next level as you creatively explore painting techniques and the use of color.
Puppets: Are you a behind the scenes kind of person, but love to be creative? Learn how to express that creativity with your new puppet friends.
Sewing: Have “sew” much fun as you learn how to operate a sewing machine and complete a sewing project reflecting your own unique creativity. No previous experience is necessary.
Tangles: Do you like to doodle and draw? Take your doodles to the next level as you create a unique piece of art from your designs.
Weaving: Using simple looms, create and explore colors and patterns for your own woven project.
*Woodworking (Junior High only): Learn about different kinds of wood and develop skills using a scroll saw and wood lathe to complete several projects. All work will be done under close adult supervision.
* Asterisk denotes classes with an additional $10 supply fee due to the nature of the class.
Note that some classes are for Junior High (Gr 5-8) students only; however, we will make every effort to group students by age in all of the electives.
